Rug cleaning is one of the few home services where the price genuinely can be quoted over the phone, because the two things that drive it are things you already know: how big the rug is and what it’s made of.
Size and Fiber Set the Price
Rugs are priced by area, not by room. A 5×8 in a bedroom and a 9×12 under a dining table are different jobs before anyone looks at how dirty they are.
Fiber matters as much as size. A synthetic runner takes a straightforward process. A hand-knotted wool piece takes a gentler one, more care with the dye, and more time. Silk needs more still. That’s not a markup, it’s a different amount of work.
Measure the rug, know roughly what it is, and we can give you a number on the call.
What Changes It
- Pet urine. This is the big one. Treating urine is a separate process from cleaning a rug, priced on its own.
- Heavy soil. A rug from an entryway off a gravel road holds more than one from a formal room.
- Pickup and delivery. Some rugs are better cleaned off site. That can factor in, and it saves you moving it yourself.
- Fringe. Hand-knotted fringe is cleaned by hand and adds time.
Our Minimum
Our minimum service charge is $140. For a single small rug the job often lands at or near it, which is why people usually have us do the whole set while we’re there. The drive and setup cost the same whether it’s one rug or four.
Pet Odor Is Quoted Separately
If the reason you’re calling is a smell, that’s not a cleaning job with an add-on. Urine passes through the rug into the backing, the pad if there is one, and the floor underneath. Cleaning the surface again doesn’t reach any of it.
P.U.R.T., our Pet Urine Removal Treatment, is applied where the urine actually is. It’s quoted on its own, and during the walkthrough we’ll tell you which spots we expect to clear and which have been in the rug long enough that we won’t promise them.
Why Cheap Rug Cleaning Costs More
A rug soaked with a lot of water and detergent has nowhere to drain. It has a backing, sometimes a pad, and a hard floor beneath. Water that goes in stays in, and a rug that dries slowly can end up worse than it started.
Our process uses about 80% less water than steam cleaning, so the rug comes back dry rather than damp. And The Natural, our core solution, works through carbonation rather than heavy soaps, so there’s no dirt-attracting residue left in the pile. A rug cleaned with a lot of detergent holds that detergent, and detergent grabs the next round of dirt. That’s what people mean when they say a rug looked good for about a month.
