SERVING LAWRENCE SINCE 2005

Area Rug Cleaning in Lawrence, KS

Your Rug Comes Back Dry, Not Damp

Brooke’s Chem-Dry has cleaned rugs in Lawrence and across Douglas County since 2005. We’re locally owned, and you’ll get a price over the phone before anything is scheduled. Call (785) 760-8000.

Your rug is dry in hours, not days. That matters more with a rug than it does with wall-to-wall carpet. A rug has a backing, a pad underneath it sometimes, and a hard floor beneath that. Soak it and the moisture has nowhere to go but down into the wood, and it sits there.

Hot Carbonating Extraction lifts soil out of the fibers with carbonation instead of flooding them, so the process runs on about 80% less water than steam cleaning. Less water going in is the whole reason it comes back dry.

We clean with The Natural®, the core solution across the Chem-Dry system. It works through carbonation rather than heavy soaps, so there’s no dirt-attracting residue left in the pile. A rug cleaned with a lot of detergent holds that detergent, and detergent grabs the next round of dirt. That’s usually what people mean when they say a rug looked good for about a month.

The Smell Is Usually In the Rug, Not On It

Most of the rug calls we take in Lawrence start with a pet, not a stain. Somebody came over, or you got back from a weekend away and caught it at the door. You’ve probably already tried something. Store spray, baking soda, maybe a machine you rented, and it was fine for four days.

Dries in Hours, Not Days

DrierOur innovative process uses about 80% less water than steam cleaning, so your rugs are dry and ready to enjoy in just 1-2 hours.

Gets Down Into the Pile

CleanerOur carbonated cleaning solution gently penetrates deep into rug fibers, removing non-living allergens, grime, and embedded dirt without damaging delicate materials.

Safe for All Rugs

Deep clean iconWe use only solutions that are safe for all rug types, from everyday synthetics to delicate oriental rugs.

Here’s why. Urine goes through the rug. It sits in the backing, in the pad if there is one, and on the floor underneath. Cleaning the surface again doesn’t reach any of that, which is why the smell keeps coming back on a warm day.

P.U.R.T., our Pet Urine Removal Treatment, is a different process from a surface clean. It’s applied to the spot where the urine actually is and breaks down what’s causing the odor rather than covering it. We’ll tell you during the walkthrough which spots we expect to clear and which have been in the rug long enough that we won’t promise them. Those are two different conversations and you should get the honest one first.

None of this means the rug is ruined. That’s the call most people are really making when they phone us.

What Ends Up In a Douglas County Rug

Rugs sit exactly where the outdoors gets tracked in, so what’s in yours depends a lot on where you live.

Spring mud and gravel dust

Plenty of Douglas County sits off the paved grid. Fine road dust settles at the base of the pile where a vacuum loses its grip, and spring turns it into mud that goes straight onto the first rug inside the door.

Winter salt

Salt and slush come off the driveway on boots and get ground in before anyone notices. Left in the fibers it dulls the color and wears the pile down, and it keeps working until something extracts it.

River-valley humidity

Lawrence sits on the Kansas River, and damp air keeps anything that’s already wet wet for longer. A rug that was soaked by a heavy cleaning stays damp here longer than it would on higher ground. That’s the practical argument for a low-moisture method rather than a marketing one.

Most of what looks like permanent dulling is soil packed down in the pile rather than damaged fiber, and it usually comes up once the cleaning reaches that depth.

How We Clean an Area Rug

You call, we quote. Most rugs get priced over the phone from the size and the fiber, so nobody waits on someone to drive out and look at a rug first.

We clean wool, oriental, Persian, silk and synthetic rugs, and the process changes with the fiber. Our cleaning professionals check the fiber and the dye before anything is applied, because what’s right for a synthetic runner is not right for a hand-knotted wool piece. If a rug is better cleaned off site we’ll say so and arrange pickup and delivery, so you don’t have to move it yourself.

For the full breakdown of fiber types, pickup and delivery, and our wool and Persian work, see our area rug cleaning service page. If your wall-to-wall needs attention in the same visit, we also handle carpet cleaning in Lawrence, KS.

What Area Rug Cleaning Costs in Lawrence

Rug cleaning prices come off the size and the fiber, which is why we can give you a cleaning cost on the phone and why that number holds when we arrive. There’s no meter running while we work.

Heavy pet treatment is a separate line because P.U.R.T. is its own process rather than an extra spray at the end. Pickup and delivery can factor in. All of it gets settled before any work starts, and if a rug needs more than a standard clean you’ll hear it during the walkthrough and the decision is yours.

Questions From Lawrence Rug Owners

Do you come out to Eudora, Baldwin City and Lecompton?

Yes, and there’s no trip charge. Those towns are on our regular Douglas County route. We have pages for rug cleaning in Eudora, Baldwin City and Lecompton.

Will the smell actually be gone, or just covered up?

If the urine reached the backing or the floor underneath, a surface clean will not fix it and we won’t pretend otherwise. P.U.R.T. treats the source. We’ll tell you before we start what we expect to clear.

Is your cleaning gentle enough for oriental and antique rugs?

Yes. Our technicians are trained in fine rug care, and we check fiber and dye stability before we clean. The process is low-moisture, which is exactly what a hand-knotted or antique piece needs.

How often should a rug be cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months for most homes. Sooner if you have pets, a busy entry, or a rug that sits where everyone walks.
