Stain removal is priced differently from cleaning, and the difference confuses people. Cleaning is priced by area. Stain work is priced by the problem, because two spots the same size can take five minutes or an hour.
Spot Treatment vs a Cleaning With Spots In It
Most stain calls are one of two jobs.
You want the room cleaned and there happen to be a few marks. Normal spot treatment is part of a standard cleaning. You’re paying for the cleaning; the spots come with it.
You want a specific stain dealt with. That’s specialty work. It’s identified, treated with something chosen for that stain and that fiber, and sometimes treated more than once. It’s quoted on its own.
Worth knowing before you call, because the second one is not a line item on the first.
What Moves the Price
- What the stain is. A protein stain, a tannin stain and a dye stain need different products and different amounts of time.
- How old it is. Fresh comes out faster. Old often needs repeat treatment.
- How big and how many. One spot is not the same job as a trail down a hallway.
- The fiber. Wool and delicate natural fibers take a gentler, slower approach than synthetic.
- Whether it’s a smell as well as a mark. Pet urine is a separate treatment, quoted separately.
Our Minimum
Our minimum service charge is $140. Coming out to treat one spot usually lands near it, which is why most people have the room or the traffic areas done in the same visit. The drive and setup cost the same either way.
Why We Won’t Quote a Stain Sight Unseen
We’ll quote cleaning over the phone all day. Stains are different, and any company that gives you a firm number for a stain it hasn’t seen is guessing.
Two spots described identically over the phone can be a five-minute job and a job we won’t promise at all. The difference is what it is, how long it’s been there, and what’s already been put on it.
So we look first, tell you what we think will happen, and give you the price before we start.
The Answer That Saves You Money
Sometimes it’s “don’t pay us for this.”
If a stain has bleached the fiber, there’s no color left to restore and no amount of treatment brings it back. Telling you that costs us the job and saves you the money, and it’s a better outcome than taking payment for something that was never going to work.
If the stain is genuinely permanent, the honest options are living with it, a repair, or replacing that section. We’ll say which we’d do.
